A team of researchers has found that a condition known asleaky gutraises the skin, causing a build-up of fat, which can affect fertility.
This is believed to have been the result of a problem with the way the body reacts to fats and causes the production of hormones in the body.
In studies, men who took Propecia for more than two years had an increased risk of having a genetic abnormality linked to the drug.
The study, published in the journalArchives of Internal Medicine, found that a condition known asraises the skin and causes the build-up of fat, which can affect fertility.
The researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Texas at San Antonio studied a group of 12 men who took a medication calledFinasteridefor more than three years. They found that men who had the drug in their system had a lower risk of fertility problems.
Finasteride is a medication that blocks the production of the hormone that causes the skin to be filled with fat. This causes the skin to thicken, which can cause an enlarged gut and other problems. However, the researchers say that the condition is not likely to be associated with the use of Finasteride.
“Our study suggests that Propecia does not appear to directly cause an abnormal gut reaction,” said lead investigator Dr. Sarah L. Peltz, a professor of dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco.
“We also believe that the findings could be tied to finasteride’s impact on the gut and the development of the male reproductive system,” she added.
Finasteride, sold under the brand name Propecia, was originally developed by Proscar. However, it was approved by the FDA in 1992 and has since been on the market. In recent years, Propecia has been found to cause fewer side effects in patients taking the medication.
Finasteride was also approved by the FDA in 1997.
In a, Dr. Peltz said that her team found that the use of Propecia led to a decreased risk of infertility in men who took the medication.
“This is consistent with findings from large clinical trials, which show that a medication such as finasteride can cause a decrease in the number of ovarian follicles and the thickness of the skin covering the ovaries,” she said.
Dr. Peltz said that there are several factors that contribute to the higher risk of infertility in men taking Propecia.
One of them is that the drug works by blocking the production of hormones in the body. This is a complex process that requires the body to be exposed to various chemicals in the system, including hormones.
“The production of hormones plays a key role in the development of female reproductive organs, and this process can be complex,” she said.
Peltz said that the study showed that the use of Finasteride led to an increased risk of infertility in men taking the medication.
“This finding is consistent with the idea that Propecia is responsible for the increased risk of infertility,” she added.
The researchers believe that the use of finasteride has been linked to the development of an abnormal gut reaction in men taking the medication.
“These results suggest that the use of Propecia can have an adverse effect on male fertility,” Dr. Peltz said.
“We believe that the use of Finasteride is not associated with the development of an abnormal gut reaction, and this study suggests that the use of Finasteride has the potential to be linked to a reduction in male fertility,” she added.
This study was funded by the National Cancer Institute, which is supported by grants to E. B. and R. for the U. S. and J. Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.
The U. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Propecia in 1997 for use in men with a hereditary problem with the male hormone testosterone.
In addition to this drug, Propecia also contains two active ingredients, namely finasteride and dutasteride.
Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that blocks the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, a hormone that causes hair loss and an enlarged prostate gland.
